Tension Russia Ukraine: A new cold war?

Episode 1: The origins.

For several weeks, renewed tension has been taking place between Russia and Ukraine. After a war that has been going on since 2013 over control of Crimea, which has gone from a major to a minor conflict, Ukraine and Russia are back in the news in 2022, with Vladimir Putin's forces returning to the Ukrainian border.

But you're probably wondering what happened in 2013 in Ukraine. Actually, the situation is a bit complicated.

After the removal of the then pro-Russian Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych on February 22, 2014, Russia declared the new pro-European government, as wanted by the people, "illegitimate" in its eyes. There, the Crimean Crisis is launched, an international diplomatic crisis following the occupation of the Crimean peninsula, a former region of Ukraine, by unidentified pro-Russian troops, and then movements of Russian federal army troops near the Ukrainian border, from February 28, 2014. The new government in place declares that Russia is making an "invasion" and creating an "armed occupation". For its part, Russia denies en bloc, and speaks of troops "self-defense" even if it mentions the possibility of sending troops. After a vote, the Parliament declares the independence of the Republic of Crimea, which today belongs to Russian territory.

Since this annexation, regular tensions remain, but this time, in 2022, the crisis seems to be more serious.
